The roster of High Road Touring reads like my personal CD collection (because yes, I still buy CDs): Indigo Girls, The Jayhawks, Aimee Mann, Emmylou Harris, Shovels & Rope. So when the HRT folks reached out to tell me about one of their newest artists, I paid attention. I wasn’t familiar with Tulsa-based singer-songwriter John Moreland a few weeks ago, but now I can’t imagine my collection complete without him. If you’re not yet introduced, I’m pretty sure you’ll feel the same. Here, say hello. Pleased to meet you.
John is on the road supporting his just-released third album, High on Tulsa Heat, which isn’t so much a follow-up to his first two acclaimed records as a definitive statement of his undeniable talent. (My words, of course, not his.) You may not have heard of John yet, but trust me, your favorite songwriters have. He blew them out of the water at the Folk Alliance International conference last month. Let’s give him a big welcome to Memphis.
